In
September, Confirmation will start again. The themes for this
year will be from the Here I Stand curriculum. We will
look at Luther’s Small Catechism, focus on The Lord’s Prayer,
Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, Ten Commandments and other
materials drawn from Luther’s works and scripture. Pastor Sarah
and Pastor Mitch will share teaching time with the other
Confirmation teaching Staff and parents on Sunday mornings. The
Wednesday evening portion of Youth ministry will concentrate on
developing a more specific and integrated youth program with Our
Youth Associates, Parents and Pastors. Pastor Sarah will be
taking the coordination role for that ministry.
We are working on a youth program that
will connect all the various components and make use of the
talents and skills of the older youth through mentoring and
leading the younger members. Rally Sunday is Sept. 7th and
Sunday School and youth ministries will be starting as the month
unfolds and school schedules are resumed. Look in other places
in the newsletter for information about event schedules for the
rest of the summer and into the fall. Put September 13th and
14th on your calendar for Atonement’s ministry event “Growing
Atonement Deep; planting and planning for the future!” a special
weekend event that will have some very specific connections to
our overall youth and family ministry. Also, in October is
“Growing in God’s Field,” a Synod wide event in Helena. We
encourage people who have commitments to different ministries at
Atonement to participate in this energy-filled two day event. It
will be a wonderful opportunity to generate ideas and plans to
strengthen our programs.
